I do this all the time and it works really well with the physical remote - smooth as silk. Ignoring the Marantz NA7004 for the moment, the Denon DNP-720AE will do gapless playback when the player is its own DLNA control point (what is often called "pulling" music from the server). Well, I am skeptical that this is really the case, although Denon technical support told me the same thing. It is a hardware issue and the newer products from Marantz (not sure about Denon) now have that ability.

In all that you mentioned the Linn line is the best at providing both sychronization and a fantastic high end solution for each area. Not a high end solution but can easily be done and the end result can be quite satisfying. Basically just have two or three Sonos into the Marantz which then lets you play them together in all zones or selected seperately if you wish. If you will be running the same thing quite often then this is a great way to go but if you are looking at wanting different streams in the different zones very often then Sonos is actually a better bet and we have also used them together on occasion to good effect. You are then basically utilizing the streamer portion of the unit to work for all zones. Only caveat is needing additional amplification to run a third zone as the second zone is amplified. What they do have however is multi zones in their A/V products which makes having zones play the same thing a snap. do the Marantz products synchronise so you can (for example) have a Melody Stream in the Kitchen and a AV7701 in the home theatre and a NA-11S1 connected to the hifi in the living room and get them all to play the same music for a party or similar? I know Linn will do this, and Naim can retransmit a compressed version to second/third/fourth zone, but not sure if any other players will synchronise properly. Maybe it's just the difference between using Denon or Marantz that is the issue but all I can say is that the LATEST app for iPad is FINALLY a winner for Marantz users and I was pleasantly surprised when it came out (which was less than a week ago).ĭavid.

I know that they stress on the App Store that you need to update all firmware in their products before using the app and I wonder if that might be part of the problem folks seem to be having. I currently am using it in my shop with four or five different Marantz receivers along with their dedicated streamer and it is as smooth as can be whether I am looking through Pandora, Spotify or Twonky on a NAS, Asset on PC, Eyeconnect on Mac. Possibly I am having such good luck because I am using the app strictly with Marantz products and not Denon. but if you read the reviews on the app store, my experience is not unique. What makes all of this frustrating for me is that I can grab the Denon physical remote, walk up to the streamer with its three-line LED display, and browse both Pandora and DLNA as smoothly as I can with BubbleUPnP or the Pandora app.Īs much as I like my 720AE, I am in the market for a new streamer, because I can't stand their app. In the end, I just use Airplay to the Denon and play Pandora from my iPhone. The Pandora browsing on the D&M app is also bad - the goofy 'scrolling arrows' on the bottom, coupled with no control over station sort ordering makes it a strain to find the station you want. I cannot reliably browse either a Twonky Media Server (7.0.9-Special on a MyBook Live) or a JRiver Media Center 19 DLNA server on a Windows 8.1 host. I have a Denon DNP-720AE and the streaming control in their recently updated app is a horror show. Well, I suppose it depends on which streaming product you have. Marantz and Denon are quietly improving their iPad app into a very decent control center for their streaming products.
